Aim-listed Edenville Energy has taken delivery of two 30 t trucks that will be used for loading and hauling at its Rukwa coal-to-power project, in Tanzania.

The company used a modest part of proceeds from fundraising undertaken in May to acquire the trucks.

As the project expands, Edenville says the trucks may be supplemented with additional units.

The company previously relied on trucks supplied by contractors, which were more expensive and less efficient.

The two new trucks will operate on a two shift a day basis, compared with the single shift for the previous contractor’s trucks, which increases the amount of coal that can be delivered to the coal wash plant.

Resultantly, the wash plant should move to a double-shift basis in the coming weeks, boosting productivity at the project.

CEO Rufus Short says the new trucks should also reduce the project’s mining costs, while enabling greater flexibility and extended use in operations.

“As the Northern Mining area continues to yield encouraging results, our reliance on contractors is diminishing and our overall efficiency is improving.”

The Rukwa coalfields comprise the Mkomolo, Namwele and Muze deposits, hosting 173-million tons of measured and indicated coal, sufficient to support a 120 MW coal-fired power plant for 30 years.
