This year, generator provider Kohler Generators introduced its 30 kW standby generator, which is ideally suited to larger homes and smaller business as it is both powerful and quiet.

The Kohler 30 residential/commercial light (RCL) generator, which will quickly restore power following an outage, features a robust 1 800 rpm liquid-cooled Kohler engine and patented noise-reduction technology that keeps sound levels to a minimum.

“As people continue to build larger homes, we’ve seen an increased demand for a residential generator of this size. The 30 RCL represents a ‘sweet spot’ within our existing line-up of automatic backup generators. It’s an ideal size for today’s larger homes and we anticipate homeowners responding strongly to the combination of power and quiet operation that this new model offers,” says Kohler Generators senior channel manager Melanie Tydrich.

Designed for wholehouse power, the 30 RCL will keep major systems and appliances – including heating, ventilation and air conditioning, lights, refrigerators, sump pumps and security systems – running in the event of a power outage. It also provides protection to sensitive electronics, including smartphones, computers and entertainment systems, owing to its voltage and frequency regulation as well as ultra-low levels of harmonic distortion.

As an added benefit, the 30 RCL runs at only 62 dB during normal operation and 54 dB during weekly exercise. While ideal for larger homes, the 30 RCL generator can also be specified for light commercial applications, including offices and other small businesses.

Similar to all Kohler standby generators, the new 30 RCL automatically turns on within seconds of a power outage. It runs on self-feeding fuels such as liquid propane or natural gas, eliminating the need to ever manually refuel the unit.

In addition, the generator features a corrosion-resistant, neutral-coloured aluminium enclosure, a Kohler brushless, rotating field alternator with broad range reconnectability, and a remote desktop controller.

The 30 RCL joins the existing 24, 38, 48 and 60 kW models within Kohler’s popular family of RCL generators. The entire product offering from Kohler Generators now extends from 8 kW all the way to 150 kW to cover essentially all backup power needs.

Diesel Mobile Generator Line
Kohler Generators’ sister company power solutions provider Kohler Power Systems also added two new models to its robust line of diesel-powered mobile generators in March. The 90REOZT4 and 120REOZT4 offer flexible options to meet end-users’ needs and feature Kohler’s unrivalled quality and reliability. The Tier 4 final generator models are built to withstand the elements, run long hours in prime and standby applications, and meet all EPA emission standards.

“The 90REOZT4 and 120REOZT4 offer quiet and reliable operation while delivering dependable power wherever it is needed. Backed by our premium three-year warranty, the two new models are the sixth and seventh option within our award winning Tier 4 final diesel and gaseous mobile generator line-up. Like all previous models, they’re compatible with our recently launched mobile paralleling box,” says Kohler Power Systems product manager Anne Feudner.

Both the 90REOZT4 and 120REOZT4 are certified by the US Environmental Protection Agency for nonroad use and are equipped with a rugged trailer and patented durable enclosure for easy maintenance. Nothing is attached to the enclosure as all wiring and connections are through the back of the unit, making it easy to remove the entire enclosure for fast engine access. Both units use machinery supplier John Deere Tier 4 final 4.5 engines that help lower operating costs with efficient performance and fuel savings. Kohler’s complete diesel mobile generator line now features nine models.

The 90REOZT4 is capable of a 78 kW to 85 kW standby rating, 70 kW to 76 kW prime rating and 62 kW to 69 kW continuous rating. The 120REOZT4 achieves a 95 kW to 105 kW standby rating, 90 kW to 96 kW prime rating and 79 kW to 89 kW continuous rating.

Both models integrate user-friendly features to deliver straightforward operation and dependable performance in the field, including a heavy-duty air cleaner with restriction indicator, fuel tanks sized for 24-hour runtime and an external emergency stop. In addition, each features stainless steel door latches and hinges, two-way fuel valves to easily switch from onboard to external fuel sources, a three position selector switch, a cold weather package that includes block and battery heaters, a convenient single point lifting eye and durable steel sound-attenuating housing with quiet operation.

The Kohler Decision-Maker 3500 digital controller, featured on the 90REOZT4 and 120REOZT4 generators, also provides intuitive displays and keypad functions, plus advanced network communications for remote monitoring. In addition, it offers a parallel capable system with an easy-to-read 4.3" light-emitting-diode backlit colour graphic liquid crystal display, remote-start and remote-stop convenience, and a potted circuit board and sealed connectors to protect against environmental conditions. Auto-sensors on the selector switch setting further eliminate the need to program voltage changes, and the unit allows for voltage, current, frequency and power monitoring, as well as analog inputs, warnings and faults monitoring.

Kohler offers a number of support services that will give rental companies an edge on the competition, including a premium three-year limited warranty and custom engineered specials to design a mobile generator that fits every job perfectly. From custom paint and decals to receptacle connectors and fuel tank capacity, Kohler makes it easy to get exactly what a customer needs.

Kohler’s global service and support network, with more than 800 locations globally, provides aftermarket support services to guarantee the satisfaction of its diesel mobile generators and other products.
