Project Description
The project involves the expansion of solar capacity at the New Luika gold mine.
The expansion is the second phase of a process to increase the mine’s hybridisation use.
The new 609 kW plant will produce about 943 950 kWh/y, in addition to the 63 kW installed as a pilot plant in 2014.
The current 63 kW plant produces about 95 750 kWh/y, but once the new plant is operational, it will produce an estimated 1 040 000 kWh/y.
Each year the plant will supply on average of more than 1 500 kWh/kWp.
The current estimated fuel saving at the plant is 28 000 ℓ/y of fuel, which will increase to about 250 000 ℓ/y in Phase 2.
Phase 2 carbon dioxide savings are estimated at 350 t/y.
