Nairobi-Thika highway improvement project, Kenya.

Project description
The Nairobi-Thika road is a dual-carriageway highway of about 45 km in length. The road is part of the classified international trunk road A2, which originates in downtown Nairobi and extends to Moyale at the Ethiopian border.

The section of highway under consideration was constructed to bitumen standard in the early 1970s. This section currently operates beyond capacity, carrying more than 30 000 vehicles a day.

Further, its condition has deteriorated, requiring rehabilitation.

Value
The project's cost is estimated at $275-million. The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a loan and grant totalling $190,2-million for the improvement project.
