Nadym-Pur-Tazovskyoil and gas project, Russia

Name of the Project
Nadym-Pur-Tazovskyoil and gas project.
Location
The plan is to develop a major oil and gas cluster in the Nadym-Pur-Tazovsky area of the Yamal-Nenets autonomous district, in Russia.
Project Owner/s
The project is a joint venture between Gazprom Neft and Lukoil.
Project Description
The Tazovskoye oil and gas condensate field, which came on line in June 2021, will be at the heart of the new production area.
Its reserves are among the biggest in West Siberia, comprising 419-million tonnes of oil and 225-billion cubic metres of gas.
The field’s reserves occur in an oil-rim – a thin layer of oil between a “gas cap” and a water horizon. Their extraction demands the drilling of high-tech wells, which is as complex as the drilling of offshore ones.
Output at the field is expected to peak at 1.7-million tonnes of oil and eight-billion cubic feet of gas.
The project will develop the Severo-Samburgskoye and Meretoyakhinskoye fields, as well as two Zapadno-Yubileiny licence blocks. These areas are undergoing additional appraisal and pilot works, on which a development strategy for the cluster will be developed.
Total reserves at the new cluster are more than one-billion tonnes of oil and about 500-billion cubic metres of gas. A considerable proportion of the reserves is situated within the Achimov Formation and is categorised as hard-to-recover reserves. The Meretoyakhinskoye field is in early production.
The Severo-Samburgskoye field contains an estimated 460-million tonnes of oil.
The Zapadno-Yubileiny blocks are part of the Nerutinskaya exploratory zone in the Nadymsky municipality of the Yamal-Nenets autonomous district.
The Achimov Formation refers to strata located in the lower part of Cretaceous sediments. Achimov reservoirs occur throughout the entire West-Siberian basin, covering more than 900 km2.

Capital Expenditure
Not stated.
Planned Start/End Date
Commercial production at the Tazovskoye field started in June 2021.
Full-scale commercial operation continues to be delayed because of its complex geology.
Latest Developments
Major geological prospecting works have been undertaken at the Meretoyakhinskoye field, on which the geological model will be updated and a development and infrastructure-solutions programme will be devised. Exploration wells at the Severo-Samburgskoye field have been retested, high-quality three-dimensional seismic tests have been undertaken and two horizontal wells (involving multistage fracking) have been drilled. Plans for further geological prospecting investigations are being updated in line with the information gathered, as is the asset’s development strategy.
