Naacam appoints new executive director as Pitot retires
The National Association of Automotive Component and Allied Manufacturers (Naacam) on Monday announced the appointment of Robert Houdet as its new executive director. Houdet succeeds Roger Pitot, who is retiring at the end of August.
Naacam noted that Houdet had wide-ranging experience in producing and marketing automotive components in several African countries, as well as in India and Turkey.
“It is this experience that will certainly contribute to ensuring that Naacam’s work on behalf of the automotive industry continues as successfully as it has in the past,” association president Mpueleng Pooe said in a statement.
Houdet had been working for Peugeot-Citroën in South Africa over the past three years, sourcing components for export to Europe. During that time he had established close ties with Naacam, as well as the country’s original-equipment manufacturers.
His previous association with South Africa was in the late-1990s, when he was part of the team that established Faurecia’s local catalytic converter plant.
He also spent several years here with Barclays Bank.
“I am confident that Mr Houdet will prove to be a worthy successor to Mr Pitot, and look forward to a long continuation of our association,” said Pooe. “To Mr Pitot go the association’s sincere thanks for his work on its behalf. We all extend to him our best wishes for a long and happy retirement.”
Naacam represents the interests of automotive component suppliers in South Africa, and has more than 170 member companies. Around 45% of component production is sold to local vehicle assemblers, 30% is exported, mainly to overseas assemblers, and 25% goes to the local spare parts market.
Naacam members employ almost 50 000 people and recorded turnover of more than R55-billion in 2012.
