Motsepe Foundation CEO Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe launched a handbook on Wednesday, in Sandton, which aims to empower women from all walks of life.

The resource is called the ‘Precious Little Black Book – A Resource Guide for Women Across South Africa’.

Moloi-Motsepe said the idea initially came about while she was practising as a doctor. She initially aimed to help empower women with health knowledge as she saw a need to help women with health education.

However, the idea grew into a handbook tackling all things important to women. This includes advice on as diverse matters as funding business, pregnancy tips, emergency numbers one might need and everything in-between.

“We have to create the change we want to be. I am very proud that the Foundation has made strides in gender responsive budgeting initiatives. We need to ask ourselves what is it that we are doing to make a difference in the world,” she added.

University of the Witwatersrand Dean of Student Affairs Professor Puleng Lenka-Bula said the contribution was in sync with the requirements of economy.

“Access to information is increasing and there is a clear understanding that often women don’t think about themselves first. Information access in many societies is disproportionate. When women access information, they share it and use it in all spheres of their lives,” she said.

Former First Lady of South Africa Zanele Mbeki encouraged all women to read the book to be empowered and empower others.

“It’s a precious little book for every development worker. I congratulate Precious and her team for doing this work. It’s very useful and it is precious,” she quipped.
