PT Vale Indonesia, a subsidiary of Vale, and PT Bahodopi Nickel Smelting Indonesia.
Project Description
The Morowali project was declared as one of Indonesia’s National Strategic Projects in 2022.
The project involves the construction of an integrated, low-carbon nickel mining and processing operation.
The smelter will use rotary kiln electric furnace technology, supported by a source of electricity from natural gas, making it energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
The natural gas power plant will be a major contributor to reducing carbon emissions from the overall operation of the project.
The smelter will have a production capacity of 73 000 t/y.
Potential Job Creation
The project will employ 15 000 workers in the construction phase and about 5 000 workers in the operational phase.
Capital Expenditure
The smelter will cost about RP37.5-trillion.
