PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Bauxite Resources has increased the resource at its Darling Range project’s Felicitas deposit, in Western Australia, by some 74% to 127.5-million tons.

The resource estimate included a measured resource of 33.1-million tons.

The Felicitas resource is contained in the Bauxite Alumina joint venture (BAJV) with Yankuang Resources. The BAJV has identified some 90-million tons of refinery-grade bauxite at Felicitas, which has been a critical hurdle for the JV to develop an alumina refinery, the company said.

Under the JV agreement, BAJV is obligated to complete a bankable feasibility study (BFS) investigating the viability of building a refinery in Western Australia capable of producing 1.1-million tons a year of alumina.

The majority of the cost of the BFS would fall on Yankuang, with Bauxite Resources contributing 10%.
