LSE- and JSE-listed packaging and paper group Mondi expects its basic earnings per share (EPS) and headline earnings per share (HEPS) for the six months ended June 30, to reflect increases of between 28% and 37%, and 9% and 16%, respectively.

EPS and HEPS are expected to be between €0.93 and €0.99 for the period.

Underlying earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation for the half-year period are expected to be above the prior comparable period of €852-million, while special item net charges after tax for the period are expected to be about €2-million.

In the first half of the prior financial year, the group recognised special item net charges after tax of €81-million.

Mondi is currently finalising its results for the period, which it expects to release on August 1.
