Adjacent to the Molo graphite mine, in Madagascar.

Project Owner/s
Mine development company NextSource Materials has appointed CrossBoundary Energy (CBE) to build, own and operate the plant over a 20-year term.

Project Description
The power plant that will power Phase 1 of the Molo mine.

The hybrid plant will comprise a 2.6 MW solar photovoltaic facility, a 1 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) and a 3.1 MW thermal facility (diesel generators).

When fully operational, the power plant will provide up to 33% of the mine’s total Phase 1 electricity needs.

Planned Start/End Date
The thermal, solar and BESS facilities are all expected to be installed and operational before the start of commissioning of the Molo processing plant in in third quarter of 2022.

Latest Developments
The construction of the power plant is on schedule.

The thermal portion of the hybrid solution is expected to be installed and operational, when the processing plant is commissioned with the renewable-energy portion following thereafter.

When fully operational, the hybrid plant will provide up to 33% of the mine’s total Phase 1 electricity needs from renewable solar energy, with the remainder provided by thermal generators.
