Name and Location
Mocuba solar photovoltaic (PV) project, Zambezia province, Mozambique.

Client
Electricidade de Moçambique (EdM), Scatec Solar and Norfund.

Project Description
The project involves the construction and operation of a solar PV plant on 126 ha, near the existing Mocuba substation.

The plant will have an electrical power production capacity of about 30 MW alternating current (ac). The total direct current power will be about 40 MW. The plant will occupy an estimated 70 ha of the 126 ha site.

The solar power plant will comprise panels of polycrystalline PV modules, each with a nominal voltage of 1 500 V. There will be 32 modules per string. Each PV module power rating will be 320 Wp, with 3 952 strings.

The modules will be mounted on a racking frame supported by posts driven into the ground, installed in regular arrays.

Each array will be about 128 m × 4 m (6 tables make an array) and 494 arrays will be installed.

The project will include a 500 m to 1 000 transmission line to the Mocuba power station and the construction of 500 m to 1 000 m of gravel road to connect the project site to the main road.

Value
The project is estimated at $84-million.
