Mkhize’s leave won’t affect vaccine roll-out – Health Committee
This article has been supplied.
The Portfolio Committee on Health has welcomed Health Minister Zweli Mkhize’s decision to ask for special leave following his alleged involvement in the Digitial Vibes scandal.
Committee chairperson Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo assured South Africans that Mkhize’s leave will not affect South Africa’s vaccination roll-out programme, which is being led by Deputy President David Mabuza.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Tuesday that he had placed Mkhize on special leave soon after Mkhize revealed he had approached the President to discuss taking leave.
“We think the special leave request is in keeping with the assurance that Minister Mkhize made to the committee. He is now allowing the whole process of the investigations to go on freely without him in the way and while this is going on we welcome the move as a committee,” Dhlomo said.
He added that the performance of the vaccination roll-out team was encouraging and said the committee had seen the results of the roll-out across the country.
