JOHANNESBURG (mningweekly.com) – South Africa's mineral resources director-general (DG) Dr Thibedi Ramontja has resigned from his position as head of the Department of Mineral Resources after four years of service, citing personal reasons.

New Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane, still only months into the job himself, will be without his DG from the end of January.

The department said in a media release on Tuesday that an acting DG appointment would be announced "in due course".

Dr Ramontja expressed his gratitude to the government for the opportunities afforded to him and the Minister praised the outgoing DG for his professional contribution to the department, work ethic and commitment.
