JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The Mineworkers Investment Company (MIC) has acquired a 27% equity stake in positioning solutions provider Optron Group.

MIC is the private equity arm of black-economic empowerment (BEE) driver, the Mineworkers Investment Trust, specialising in making late-stage investments in listed and unlisted mature businesses.

Optron CEO Trevor Venter said the deal shows the group’s commitment to BEE. “We welcome MIC into the Optron Group and look forward to working closely with them towards the empowerment of previously disadvantaged individuals.”

This is seen as a strategic move by Optron Group that is aligned with its overall long-term strategy of creating shared value that makes a positive difference for all its stakeholders.

MIC CEO Mary Bomela added that it was pleased to invest in such a dynamic, growing business, and looked forward to playing an active role in this growth, including continuing Optron’s existing transformation initiatives.
