Botswana-listed Minergy has successfully started mining operations at the Masama coal project, in Botswana, exposing the first 340 000 t of coal.

This represents about three months’ nameplate production.

Minergy will, during this month, record its first commercial sales and the ramp-up of the mine is on track.

The company is currently mining 110 000 t of coal a month, which equates to between 70 000 t and 80 000 t of saleable coal.

Minergy aims to increase the saleable coal target to 100 000 t a month in early 2020.

Meanwhile, Minergy is signing its first long-term contract, to deliver 120 000 t of coal a year to one regional industrial customer. This order represents about 10% of the company’s estimated yearly saleable coal production.

Discussions with other regional industrial customers are ongoing.

The company says it is progressing towards listing on the LSE’s Aim.
