Millennium eyes higher production at Nullagine
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Millennium Minerals is weighing its options to increase production at its Nullagine mine, in Western Australia, as production continues according to plan.
Millennium reported on Monday that during the quarter ended June, the Nullagine project produced some 16 441 fine ounces of gold, in line with the forecast of 16 661 oz.
For the quarter, gold dore production reached 19 704 oz.
Millennium noted that for the full 2013, the throughput rate of 1.5-million tonnes would yield some 78 000 oz of gold, with higher gold production expected during the second half of the year, as mining at the higher-grade Golden Gate deposit started.
The miner noted that the current 1.5-million-tonne-a-year carbon-in-leach (CIL) processing facility had been designed to meet design production rates under any combination of ore types, and noted that sustainable production above nameplate would require a review of actual milling capacity, CIL residence time, power supply and water supply capacities.
An assessment of mill capacity above the planned production rate during the first half of the year had indicated that higher milling rates were possible, and Millennium said on Monday that milling rates could be increased to 1.7-million tonnes a year, as proven over December last year and March this year.
The company said that forward planning would take this potential into account.
