MICROmega Holdings  (0.06 MB)

MICROmega Holdings’ Limited subsidiary company - is accredited to provide contractor compliance safety training for Safety Pass Alliance South Africa.

Endorsed by the South African Petroleum Industry, the S.P.A South Africa system is now used by BP and Total petrol stations. Health club company Virgin Active is also using the accreditation scheme to manage contractors at its facilities.

S.P.A South Africa is a safety control system using Passport cards to show that contract workers have completed safety induction programmes. This prevents contractors from sending temporary, unskilled and uninitiated staff to sites, thereby reducing the risks to workers, contractors and companies.

NOSA will offer two induction programmes for each industry: a compulsory module that outlines the fundamentals of occupational health and safety, with an additional course relating to the specific industry or a 1-day Health Club Facilities Management Course. This contractor compliance safety training will reduce the time spend by contractor employees attending a health and safety induction prior to conducting work on site as well as the resources required by a client to run these induction courses.

“Contractor employees pose a significant safety risk when entering client premises and site management do not always have the resources to establish a suitable level of health and safety awareness. The courses offered by NOSA will assist in reducing contractor incidents by making contractors mindful of occupational health and safety concerns within the petroleum and health club industries. The course material is modified to suit local industry needs and covers South African HSE legislation,” explains Justin Hobday, the Managing Director of NOSA.

After attending the course and attaining an 80% pass mark for the assessment, the contractor will be issued with a S.P.A SA passport. This will assist companies like BP, Total and Virgin Active that subscribe to the scheme with access control as only contractors in possession with the S.P.A South Africa passport may enter a site. The passport is a robust and secure photocard that displays a tamperproof photograph of each contractor who has successfully completed the one and two-day safety training programmes and is valid for three years - after which the contractor employee is required to attend a refresher course.

“A leading global supplier of occupational risk management solutions and services, NOSA is the most recognised brand in the SHEQ risk management industry. Our impressive footprint across South Africa ensures that all contractors will receive a common level of health and safety training across the country. This makes NOSA an ideal training provider for the S.P.A South Africa scheme as we have the infrastructure to deliver a high quality, consistent transfer of skills nationally,” adds Hobday. Based in Cape Town, S.P.A South Africa operates under an exclusive license agreement with Safety Pass Alliance Ltd in the United Kingdom.
