PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Junior Metals X has increased the resource at its Renison tin mine, in Tasmania, by some 31%, following a drilling campaign.

The tin miner noted that the total mineral resource at Renison now stood at 11.57-million tonnes, grading 1.76% tin, for some 204 000 t of contained metal.

“This is a great result and comes on the back of a large ore reserve increase announced in July. It demonstrates Metals X’s commitment to grow its globally significant tin business,” said Metals X CEO Peter Cook.

He noted that the additional resource was important to the company with regard not only to the quantum of increase in the mineral resource, but also in that it represented a major step-change in Metals X’s ability to quantify and evaluate the Renison tin system.

“We are now focused on converting the increase to this substantial mineral resource to ore reserves, and reaping the benefits of the improved schedule flexibility that the additional ore will bring to the mine,” Cook said.

He added that the total mineral resource at Renison was now equivalent to over 16 years of current yearly plant capacity.

Metals X holds a 50% interest in the project, and has been classified as Australia’s only significant tin producer. The Renison project includes a 700 000 t/y tin concentrator plant, and the project had a targeted production rate of between 7 000 t/y and 8 000 t/y.
