Automotive and energy group Metair has appointed Paul O’Flaherty as its new CEO, starting from February 1.

This follows Sjoerd Douwenga’s resignation at the end of last year.

O’Flaherty is no stranger to SA Inc, and joins Metair from EY Parthenon, which he has led from February 2021 to date.

He has served in CFO and CEO roles at construction company Group Five, steel maker ArcelorMittal South Africa and power utility Eskom Holdings.

Prior to joining EY, he had the overall responsibility for the $1bn separation of Absa Bank from Barclays.

O’Flaherty has entered into a 36-month contract with Metair.

The Metair board says his appointment “will provide stability to the company, the market and other key stakeholders”, while also “accelerating the execution of the company’s key initiatives to unlock value for shareholders”.
