Merafe production up 14.5%

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Additional production from the Project Lion II furnaces has pushed JSE-listed ferrochrome miner Merafe’s share of production from the Glencore–Merafe Chrome Venture, in Limpopo, up by 14.5% year-on-year to 277 000 t for the first nine months of the year.

For the third quarter, the company also reported an increase in production to 82 000 t, up from 74 000 t in the third quarter the year before.

The venture’s operating capacity utilisation was now at 85%.
