The power station is planned to be constructed in Matola, Mozambique.

Gigajoule and Matola Gas Company (MGC).

Project Description
The Mozambique Council of Ministers approved two new concessions for the gas-to-power market in July 2019.

The 25-year concession was awarded to Central Térmica de Beluluane (CTB), an affiliate of Gigajoule enables CTB to develop, build and operate a 2 000 MW gas-fired power station that can be developed in phases as market demand develops.

Aa pipeline will be built from the port of Matola to the power plant.

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to generate 1 700 jobs during construction and 1 050 permanent jobs in the exploration phase.

Capital Expenditure
The project, to be developed in phases, is estimated at $2.8-billion.

The gas pipeline network, harbour infrastructure and connection to the South African gas pipeline network through the MGC gas infrastructure, will cost about $350-million.

Planned Start/End Date
A final investment decision is expected to be taken by mid-2020, with commercial operations expected to start by the end of 2022.

Latest Developments
On November 27, 2019, Gigajoule and Total signed a joint development agreement for the importation of liquefied natural gas and power generation.
