The proposed power lines will be built between the KiPower independent power producer (IPP) plant, south-east of Delmas, in Mpumalanga, South Africa, and a connection point on the Matla-Glockner power line, about 12 km south-east of the N17 national road.

KiPower, a subsidiary of Kuyasa Mining.

Project Description
The proposed project entails the construction of two 400 kV power lines to connect KiPower’s approved IPP plant to the existing Matla-Glockner 400 kV transmission line.

Electricity will be transferred from the KiPower IPP plant to Eskom through a switchyard located within the power plant’s footprint.

After construction, the power lines will be transferred to and operated by Eskom.

Latest Developments
The final environmental-impact report (FEIR) and the environmental management programme (EMPr) for the transmission line project was submitted for review to the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) in August.

The FEIR and EMPr were also made available for public comment.

The environmental authorisation for the project will be granted or denied based on the DEA’s findings.

The stakeholders will be notified within 12 days of the DEA’s decision.

Based on the DEA’s decision, further applications, such as for an integrated water-use licence, may be applied
for.
