Mad Dog Phase 2 project.

Location
The second Mad Dog platform will be moored about 10 km to the south-west of the existing Mad Dog platform, which is located in 1 371 m of water and about 305 km south of New Orleans, in the US Gulf of Mexico.

Project Owner/s
Multinational oil and gas company bp (60.5%), and co-owners BHP (23.9%) and Union Oil Company of California, an affiliate of Chevron (15.6%).

Woodside merged with BHP’s petroleum business in 2022. Woodside holds a 23.9% nonoperated participating interest in Mad Dog.

Project Description
The project aims to add a second platform to the supergiant Mad Dog field at less than half of the original cost.

Mad Dog Phase 2 will include a new floating production platform that can produce up to 140 000 gross barrels of crude oil a day from up to 14 production wells. The project includes capacity for water injection.

The new Argos platform is a semisubmersible floating production unit located about 10 km south-west of the existing Mad Dog platform.
