Macusani Plateau uranium project, Peru
Name and Location
Macusani Plateau uranium project, Peru.
Client
Macusani Yellowcake.
Project Description
A preliminary economic assessment (PEA) on the uranium properties, located on the Macusani Plateau, in the Puno district, has demonstrated that the project has the potential to become a large, low-cost uranium mining operation.
There is also excellent exploration potential to further expand the size of the existing mineral resource, which currently comprises a measured and indicated resource of 47.9-million tonnes grading 253 parts per million (ppm) uranium and containing 14.3 t uranium oxide (U3O8), and an inferred mineral resource of 40.5-million tonnes grading 286 ppm uranium and containing 13.6 t U3O8.
Potentially economic material for the project will initially come from multiple target deposits, including Colibri 2 and 3/Tupuramani, Chilcuno Chico, Quebrada Blanca, Corachapi and Triunfador 1.
Value
Initial capital expenditure to construct the mine and a 8.5-million-tonne-a-year process plant has been estimated at $331-million. Total sustaining capital costs for the life of the mine are estimated at $228-million.
Duration

Latest Developments
The PEA has paved the way for further development of the project and the completion of a prefeasibility study, which Macusani expects to start in 2014.
