PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The board of metals developer MacPhersons has given approval for an immediate bankable feasibility study (BFS) into the Boorara gold project, in Western Australia.

The BFS for the Stage 1 mine would be based on a near-surface opencut operation producing between 3-million and 3.5-million tonnes a year of ore, grading at some 1.01 g/t gold for between 86 000 oz and 91 000 oz over a three-year mine life.

The Stage 1 project was expected to require a capital investment of some A$20-million.

MacPhersons pointed out that significant infrastructure capital cost savings would be achieved by using existing infrastructure at the Nimbus project, which was 1 km north-east of Boorara.

The available infrastructure included an office complex, the Merrill Crowe plant, a mains power line to Nimbus, Chappell Bore water supply and existing access roads.

A number of permits for the Stage 1 heap leach project have already been granted, including the mining proposal, clearing permits, a licence to take groundwater and a licence to build or alter a well at Stoneville.

The BFS, which was expected to cost some A$2-million to complete, would be funded from the company’s existing cash flow.
