Name of the Project
MacIntyre wind power complex.

Location
Queensland, Australia.

Project Owner/s
The complex comprises two wind farms: MacIntyre (923 MW), owned by Acciona Energía (70%) and Ark Energy (305); and Karara, owned by Queensland’s public utility CleanCo, which will also operate it.

Project Description
The scale of the project currently makes it one of the biggest onshore wind farms in the world.

The complex will comprise 180 wind turbines, each with a capacity of up to 5.7 MW, for a total capacity of 1 026 MW. Acciona will develop and own 926 MW, and a further 100 MW will be built and owned by CleanCo. The project will generate clean electricity to power about 700 000 homes and avoid the emission of nearly three-million tons of carbon dioxide a year.

About 64 km of transmission lines will be laid to connect the wind complex to the grid.

Potential Job Creation
Up to 400 jobs will be generated over the life of the project.

Capital Expenditure
The project will require an investment of A$1.96-billion over three years, mostly in 2022 and 2023.

Planned Start/End Date
The project will begin construction in mid-2021, with the complex scheduled to be fully operational in 2024.

Latest Developments
Acciona Energía has started the construction of the MacIntyre complex.

Key Contracts, Suppliers and Consultants
