PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Rare earths producer Lynas has had the deadline to satisfy the licence conditions to start construction of the permanent disposal facility (PDF) for water leach purification (WLP) residue at its Malaysian plant by six months to March 2022.

The company told shareholders on Monday that the extension recognised the constraints presented by current Covid-19 conditions, as Malaysia experienced its third wave of infections.

“We continue to engage productively with the relevant government and regulatory authorities to progress the approvals for the PDF,” Lynas said on Monday.

The construction of the PDF for the WLP was one of the operating licene conditions for Lynas’ Malaysian plant.

Lynas on Monday told shareholders that the company continued to operate its Malaysian plant at reduced rates, in line with its health and safety commitments, despite some 98% of its Malaysian staff having received their first vaccination dose, and 94% having received their second.
