Lubrication systems of R2.5m supplied to India-based steel mills
India-based Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) contracted engineering products manufacturer and supplier Operational Marketing South Africa (Omsa) to supply bearing oil lubrication systems and girth gear centralised spray systems to the value of R2.5-million in the last quarter of 2012 to three new mills.
JSPL will expand its operations with two wet media and dual-drive ball mills and one dry media ball mill, which are being constructed in the state of Orissa, in eastern India.
Omsa was the ideal choice to manufacture and install the new lubrication units – three oil units and three grease units – as it successfully supplied and installed mill lubrication sets in 2008 for JSPL, which have met the company’s operational requirements, says Omsa director Xen Papastamopoulos.
The lubrication units, which take an estimated five months to manufacture, will be supplied to the respective mills next month and take between four and six weeks to install.
Once the lubrication units are delivered to site, a team of Omsa commissioning engineers and service technicians will install the mill lubrication systems and ensure that they are operational.
Omsa will also provide after-sales service and support, as well as a maintenance contract, if required.
Papastamopoulos says the highly specified lubrication system will ensure increased plant availability, owing to its highly specified design, manufacture and installation.
The operational marketing field services manager will also provide a one-week hands-on training course in India for the plant maintenance personnel.
This entails providing comprehensive manuals on the maintenance of the systems and basic troubleshooting.
“Omsa’s design and product knowledge in this sector, in addition to its global network of after-sales support, and experience in selling and servicing lubrication equipment worldwide have enhanced the company’s ability to win this contract,” notes Papastamopoulos.
He adds that Omsa has a healthy order book for projects locally and in Africa and has supplied similar systems to several concentrators and other processors locally and internationally. These include some of the largest mills of their kind in the world at South African platinum mines, Zambian copper plants and West African gold reduction works.
