Project Description
A preliminary economic assessment (PEA) has shown the potential of the LHP-2 to expand Piedmont’s lithium hydroxide manufacturing business using spodumene concentrate from market resources.
The PEA is based on a 30-year, 30 000 t/y lithium hydroxide conversion facility and includes spodumene concentrate receiving and/or short-term storage facilities, reagent-receiving and storage facilities, process facilities and site infrastructure.
Production will stem from 196 000 t/y of spodumene concentrate sourced from third-party spodumene concentrate purchases.

The project has an after-tax net present value, at an 8% discount rate, of $2.25-billion and internal rate of return of 33%, with a payback of 3.1 years from the start of operations.

The LHP-2 is expected to achieve nameplate capacity, including overall production and battery quality production, after a 12-month ramp-up period.
