Project Description
The Mombasa-Nairobi multiproduct pipeline (Line 1) was commissioned in 1978 and is about 449.1 km long.

The pipeline operates with eight pumpstations located along the pipeline and each pumpstation has two pumps rated at 440m3/h.

The pipeline is operated by running either one pump set or two pump sets per station, depending on the demand of product.

The project aims to replace the existing Line 1 with a suited pipeline size to meet the projected demand of petroleum products in Kenya and in the Eastern Africa Region up to year 2044.

Value
The project will be financed through internally generated funds and external borrowing.

The loan limit has been set at between $400-million and $500-million.
