Malawi’s Lilongwe Water Board is inviting bids for the supply of pipes, pipe fittings and hydrostatic pressure testing equipment for the water supply system in the city, which is being overhauled.

The water board says the tender is divided into four lots, with Lot 1 involving the supply of PVC and HDPE pipes and fittings, Lot 2 valves, steel and iron pipes and fittings, Lot 3 metallic pipes and fittings, and Lot 4 hydrostatic pressure testing equipment.

Qualification requirements for the tender include successful completion of at least two similar projects in the last five years and an average annual turnover for the last three years of at least two times the bid amount.

The water board says the bidders must also have liquid assets or lines of credit from a recognised financial institution or manufacturer of at least 0.4 times the bid amount and internationally approved certification of the manufacturer for quality management standards.

Bid documents are obtainable on submission of a written application and payment of 15 000 Malawi kwacha (about $35) or its equivalent in a freely convertible currency.
The deadline for the submission of bids is April 28.

Malawi is overhauling Lilongwe’s water supply system to improve its efficiency and capacity under the umbrella of the National Water Development Programme.
