JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Drilling and density measures at Aim-listed Paragon Diamonds’ Lemphane kimberlite project, in Lesotho, indicated a substantial increase in tonnage estimates, with the overall estimated tonnage, to a depth of 350 m below mean surface, increasing by 80% from 27-million tons to 48.6-million tons.

Tonnages in the upper portion of the kimberlite, up to a depth of 170 m, also increased by 15%, with the revised model containing 26.7-million tons, compared with previous estimates of 23.2-million tons.

“This highly significant increase in tonnage is excellent news for the project, as it has the potential, if proven economic, to double the current volume of kimberlite used in the scoping study with an overall positive impact on the project economics.

“I am confident that our work programme going forward, which will include significantly more drilling, will continue to confirm our belief in the potential of Lemphane to be a valuable resource of large diamonds," Paragon executive chairperson Martin Doyle said.

A final strip ratio was yet to be determined for the revised tonnage but it was expected to be within the acceptable economic limits encountered on other openpit kimberlite mines in Lesotho, Paragon said.
