JSE-listed energy and chemicals manufacturer Sasol has announced a number of leadership changes, including the fact that Dr Mandla Gantsho will succeed Hixonia Nyasulu as chairperson from November 22.
Gantsho, a chartered accountant and a director on a number of other company boards, served as an African Development Bank VP from 2006 to 2009, having previously been MD at Development Bank of Southern Africa. He is currently also CEO of Africa Rising Capital.
Gantsho’s appointment, Sasol said, was made in line with the board’s succession planning process and was overseen by the nomination, governance, social and ethics committee and driven by lead independent director Professor Juergen Schrempp.
“The board has considered the fact that Dr Gantsho had been a director of the company for 10 years and confirmed his independence.”
The group also announced that it had appointed Ernst Oberholster, who its current New Business Development MD, to replace senior group executive Lean Strauss, who retires at the end of September.
Oberholster has been with the company for more than 23 years and has taken a leading role in the international energy and new business development arenas.
In addition, CFO Christine Ramon had resigned and Paul Victor was appointed as the acting CFO and executive director with effect from September 10.
