Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced last week that single-use plastics, such as straws, will be banned from as early as 2021. As part of the crackdown, plastics manufacturers and companies using plastic packaging will be responsible for the collection and recycling of the materials. Canada’s move is part of a growing global trend, with the European Union voting in March to outlaw some products, such as plastic bags, that fragment into small pieces and remain in the environment such as plastic bags.
