Project Description
Rio Tinto plans to build a 34 MW solar PV plant to supply all the electricity demand of the Koodaideri mine during peak solar power generation times and about 65% of the mine’s average electricity demand.

The plant will comprise an estimated 100 000 panels, covering 105 ha.

Complementing the solar power plant will be a new 12 MWh battery energy storage system in Tom Price, which will provide spinning reserve generating capacity to support a stable and reliable network.

The solar plant and battery are expected to lower carbon dioxide emissions by about
90 000 t/y, compared with conventional gas-powered generation.
