Königshovener Höhe wind farm, Germany
Name and Location
Königshovener Höhe wind farm, Bedburg, Germany.
Client
RWE and the City of Bedburg.
Project Description
The 67-MW-capacity wind farm will be built at the reclaimed site of the Garzweiler opencast mine and comprise 21 turbines of 3.2 MW each.
The wind power systems will have a hub height of 143 m and a rotor diameter of 114 m. The first phase of the project will involve the erection of 12 turbines.
Construction of the second phase depends on the amendments to the Renewable Energy Act, expected this year, and their potential impact on the project’s economic viability.
The wind farm will be connected to the grid through the main substation at Jackerath, at the Garzweiler opencast mine.
Value
The project is valued at € 70-million.
Duration
First preparatory construction activities, such as construction of roads and crane sites, have started.
In May 2013, Senvion began the excavation and subsoil improvement measures to achieve stability for future foundations.
The foundations are expected to be installed in the second quarter of 2014, along with the laying of the cables.
The installation of the wind power systems is expected to start as early as July, with the first 12 wind power systems expected to be commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2014.
Latest Developments
The official ground-breaking ceremony for the Königshovener Höhe wind farm took place on March 31.
