Name and Location
Kirikkale cogeneration power plant (CPP) project, Turkey.

Client
Seymenoba Elektrik Üretimi, a subsidiary of AES Entek Elektrik Üretimi.

Project Description
The plan is to construct a CPP with an installed capacity of 233.7 MWe adjacent to the existing Tupras refinery, in Kırıkkale.

The proposed plant will meet the steam consumption and electricity demand of the Tupras refinery. The surplus generation will be supplied to the national mains.

The Kırıkkale CPP will consist of two gas turbines with gas-turbine exhaust bypass stacks, two heat-recovery steam generators (HRSGs) with cofiring, one steam turbine and two auxiliary boiler blocks, as well as three generators and a distributed control system.

There will be four stacks for the project – two for the steam boilers and one for each HRSG unit. The CPP is expected to consume about 300-million cubic metres of natural gas a year. Natural gas will be supplied from the Botas PRMS station, which is to be built about 1 200 m away from the project site.

The plant will use a wet cooling system, with water supplied from the Kapulukaya dam, to which the Tupras refinery is entitled to 6% of the water. The chlorinated and filtered water will be taken from tanks, treated in the demineralisation unit and then added to the system to compensate for the loss of the auxiliary steam system and the water-steam cycle.

Value
$385-million.
