Khayelitsha West to get new MyCiti route this weekend
Residents on the west side of Khayelitsha would soon have access to MyCiti buses right on their doorstep with the launch of an additional route in the area, the City of Cape Town said on Thursday.
“We are extremely proud and excited about the roll-out of the additional MyCiTi route to Khayelitsha West this weekend,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport Brett Herron.
“This is the second milestone in the City of Cape Town’s endeavor to provide the communities of the Cape Flats with safe, affordable and decent public transport.”
The route – the second in Khayelitsha – formed part of the City’s N2 Express service to the Civic Centre station in Cape Town central. It saw the extension of the express service’s coverage of Khayelitsha by 34km and an additional 10 sets of bus stops.
Herron said that since the launch of the express service in July 2014, more than one million passenger journeys were recorded. He added that consultations with residents about the new route were extensive and the roll-out was a culmination of this.
“I am confident that the new route will soon become just as popular among the local residents,” he said .
The route, which would commence in Kuyasa in Khayelitsha at 5am on weekdays, would launch on Saturday. The last bus back to Khayelitsha West from Cape Town would leave at 10pm.
