PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The Keysbrook mineral sands project, in Western Australia, has achieved its nameplate throughput capacity one month after producing its first batch of zircon concentrate.

Owner MZI Resources said on Thursday that the company had assumed operational responsibility for the plant.

“The rapid ramp-up of the Keysbrook wet concentrator plant to nameplate capacity in less than a month is testament to the diligent and disciplined approach to construction and commissioning adopted by our Keysbrook team and the lead contractor GR Engineering from day one,” said MZI MD Trevor Matthews.

“With commissioning of the mine feed unit and Picton facilities in progress, we are well on track to complete our ramp-up to full production during December, further extending MZI’s excellent record of meeting key milestones on budget and ahead of schedule.”

Full production would see Keysbrook deliver 96 000 t/y of leucoxene and zircon products.
