Project Description
The project involves the construction of a new combined heat and power facility, which will convert household waste into steam and electricity.

The project will divert 550 000 t/y of waste from Kent and the south-east of England.

This is waste that would have been sent to landfill sites or have been exported to Europe for treatment.
The facility has also been designed to provide steam for the neighbouring papermill and will generate 43 MW of sustainable electricity at full capacity.

Jobs to be Created
The project is expected to create 40 full time jobs.

£340-million.

Duration
The project is scheduled to begin operations in 2019.

Latest Developments
Arup was appointed the lead building designer for the project in August this year. The company will work closely with civil contractors Clugston Construction and principal contractor CNIM Group over the next 36 months to ensure the successful delivery of the project.
Arup will provide civil, structural and geotechnical engineering, in addition to reviewing mechanical, electrical and plumbing building services.
