Project Description
The project involves the development of a 37.6 MW greenfield peaking run-of-river hydroelectric power project on the Kabeli river, in the Taplejung and Panchthar districts, in Nepal.

The project includes a dam – 14.3 m high, with a 60-m-long barrage; live storage of 335 000 m3 on the river’s natural flood plain; an intake and settling basin with a design discharge of 37.73 m3/s; a tunnel, 4.3 km long and 5.65 m in diameter; an above-ground powerhouse, with the tailrace discharging directly into the river; a 7.4-km-long access road to the headwork; and a 15-km-long access to the powerhouse.

During the dry season, from November to May, the Kahep plant will be operated as a peaking plant.
