Kabanga nickel sulphide joint venture, Tanzania.

Project Description
The Kabanga nickel project is among the world's most attractive undeveloped nickel sulphide deposits, with a total estimated indicated mineral resource of 23,23-million tons, grading 2,64% nickel and a total estimated inferred resource of 28,5-million tons grading 2,7% nickel. The new resource estimate represents a significant increase from the project's initial 2005 estimate (inferred) of 26,4-million tons at 2,6% nickel.

The proposed facility under study is an underground mine, milling and concentrator facility located at the Kabanga site. The concentrate is proposed to be transported to the Port of Dar es Salaam by road and existing rail infrastructure where it will be shipped to Xstrata's Sudbury smelter and other custom feed customers.

Duration
A full feasibility study was expected to be completed by the end of 2009.

Client
The Kabanga project is a 50:50 joint venture between Xstrata Nickel and Barrick Gold Corporation.
