Name and Location
Johan Sverdrup oilfield development, Norway.

Client
The project is a joint venture between Statoil (40.0267%), Lundin Norway (22.12%), Petoro (17.84%), Det norske oljeselskap (11.8933%) and Maersk Oil (8.12%).

Project Description
Johan Sverdrup is one of the five biggest oilfields on the Norwegian continental shelf.

With expected resources of between 1.7-billion barrels and three-billion barrels of oil equivalent, it will also be one of the most important industrial projects in Norway over the next 50 years.

The field will be developed in phases.

The first phase comprises four installations – a utility and living quarters platform, a platform for processing and for drilling, and a riser platform, as well as three subsea water injection templates.

The platforms will be interlinked by gangways. Daily production in the first phase has been estimated at between 315 000 bbl/d to 380 000 bbl/d.

At peak production, the operation is expected to reach 550 000 bbl/d to 650 000 bbl/d. Oil from the field will be piped to the Mongstad terminal, in Hordaland. The gas will be transported by Statpipe to the KÂrst¯ processing plant, in North Rogaland.

Value
The first-phase of the project is estimated at NKr117-billion.

Duration
Production start-up is scheduled for the end of 2019.

Latest Developments
ABB has been awarded an order worth an estimated $90-million from Statoil for a high-voltage cable system that will supply power from shore to the Johan Sverdrup offshore oilfield.

ABB will design, manufacture and install an 80 kV extruded direct current cable system with a capacity of 100 MW to transmit power from the Norwegian power grid to the Johan Sverdrup offshore production facility.

At an estimated 200 km in length, it will be the longest extruded submarine cable system to an offshore oil and gas platform facility in the world.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
Kvaerner and KBR (topside for utility and living quarters platform).
