Name of the Project
Inis Ealga Marine Energy Park project.

Location
South coast of County Cork, Ireland.

Project Owner/s
Ireland-based renewable energy developer DP Energy and renewable energy producer Iberdrola.

Project Description
The project will contribute to Ireland’s climate objective of reducing its carbon emissions by 51% by 2030 to reach total decarbonisation by 2050.

The project has an indicative capacity of 1 GW that could potentially generate 3 942 000 MW h/y of electricity, enough to power 938 571 houses a year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.28-millon tonnes a year.

The project will use floating offshore wind technology, which involves turbines mounted on a floating structure connected to the seabed by mooring lines. The advantage of using this technology is that it can be deployed in much greater water depths, taking advantage of stronger and more consistent wind speeds.

Based on available technology, a 1 GW wind farm would likely comprise about 70 turbines of 15 MW each.
