British car maker Ineos Grenadier has lifted the veil on the second model to arrive within its stable – the Grenadier Quartermaster double-cab bakkie.

Developed and built alongside the Grenadier sports-utility vehicle (SUV), the new model promises to deliver the same off-road capability as its stablemate.

While the Quartermaster shares most of its architecture and components with the SUV, its rigid box-section ladder frame chassis is 305 mm longer.

This results in a load bay of 1 564 mm long and 1 619 mm wide – large enough to carry a standard Euro pallet.

Payload is 760 kg, and towing capacity 3 500 kg.

Inside the cabin, the Quartermaster can carry five people.

Similar to the SUV, the pick-up is powered by BMW’s three-litre turbo-charged, inline six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, as well as an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.

A centre differential lock and a two-speed transfer case are fitted as standard (front and rear diff locks are optional).

The Quartermaster has 264 mm of ground clearance and 800 mm wading depth.

The Quartermaster line-up will mirror that of the SUV, and the vehicle is available in standard, Trialmaster and Fieldmaster trim.

Ineos Automotive South Africa says there is no official date yet for the Quartermaster’s arrival in the country.

However, the company notes that local pricing will be released when order books open on August 1.
