Indeck Niles Energy Centre, US
Name of the Project
Indeck Niles Energy Centre.
Location
Niles, Michigan, in the US.
Project Owner/s
The plant is owned by Korea Southern Power Co (50%), Daelim Energy Co (30%) and Indeck Energy Services (20%).
Project Description
The Indeck Niles Energy Centre will be a next-generation, state-of-the-art energy facility fuelled by clean natural gas.
The centre is being built to fill the vacuum created by the decommissioning of dirtier and less efficient coal-fired plants in the region. The facility will use combined-cycle technology to generate 1 000 MW of electricity, enough to power 635 000 homes and businesses.
Potential Job Creation
The construction of the plant is expected to create 500 union construction jobs and 21 full-time jobs for ongoing plant operations.
Capital Expenditure
More than $1-billion is being invested in the project.
Planned Start/End Date
Construction will begin in August 2019 and the expected commercial operation date is March 2022.
Latest Developments
GE Power received an order for its HA gas turbine technology for the Indeck Niles Energy Centre in May 2019.
GE will work through a contract with Kiewit Power Constructors – the engineering, con-struction and procurement (EPC) contractor on the project – to integrate two of GE’s 7HA.02 gas turbines into the power plant.
The order includes a GE steam turbine and generator, two heat recovery generators and a multiyear services agreement.
Key Contracts and Suppliers
Kiewit Power Constructors (EPC) and GE Power (turbine technology).
On Budget and on Time?
