While JSE-listed Impala Platinum (Implats) awaits approval from the Competition Tribunal to buy out all of the remaining shares it does not own in fellow-listed Royal Bafokeng Platinum (RBPlat), it has acquired a further 151 829 RBPlat shares.

This amounts to a further 0.05% ownership in RBPlat, taking Implats’ shareholding in the company to 40.71%.

Implats has been steadily increasing its shareholding in RBPlat since it first mentioned its intention to take over the company in November 2021, at a value of R150 a share – R90 in cash and R60 in shares.

The company believes the long-stop date of November 22 for the merger is achievable, however, it reserves the right to further extend the long-stop date.
