JOHANNESBURG (minigweekly.com) - Integrated ferrochrome producer International Ferro Metals (IFM) on Friday said its two furnaces had resumed normal operations.

The ferrochrome producer announced in November that the furnaces had been experiencing productivity issues owing to recurring electrode breaks.

The company had established that this was the result of inadequate-quality electrode paste being used.

IFM stated on Friday that it had replaced the electrode paste in December and that it was confident that the issue had been fully resolved.

It added that appropriate action had been taken to prevent future recurrences.

The company will release its production report for the three months ending December on January 24, but, in November, it warned that the furnace problems would likely impact the company’s production and costs for the second quarter of the financial year, with ferrochrome output for that quarter estimated to be down 15% on the 58 000 t produced in the prior quarter.
