JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – London-listed International Ferro Metals (IFM) has signed an agreement with JSE-listed Chrometco to conduct exploratory drilling of LG6 chrome ore at Chrometco’s Rooderand mine, in the North West.

Upon the completion of the drilling, IFM would be entitled to mine up to 200 000 t of chrome over a 12-month period in exchange for a fee paid to Chrometco for every tonne mined, IFM said on Wednesday.

Beneficiation of the ore would occur at IFM’s smelters.

IFM said the agreement was in line with its stated strategy of obtaining higher-grade feedstock for its furnaces to allow for more flexibility and effectiveness in the company’s operations.
